Val of Arabia: my trip to Dubai

    2nd July 2017

Vacation. Over the years, I was never one to indulge in too many holidays. My family used to take days off over the summer – my dad was in the Navy and while august was the busiest period navigation-wise, he always did his best to take part of the month if not all off. With the several Italian Bank holidays and Christian festivities he was easily able to enjoy Xmas time and so on too. But we were never big on vacationing abroad – and we couldn’t, really.

So travel per se was a rather new feature of my life, from since I spent an academic year in Spain, during my Erasmus. While I was already living away from home (I studied in Genoa, a couple of hrs from home regione, Tuscany) it was really after that experience that I saw a bit more of the world.

My real long trip away by myself was Argentina, in 2005 – then with friends scattered all over the Old Continent, I started traveling a bit tiny bit more. It was when I moved to the UK that we came of age so to speak: if have followed my recent trips, you know how blessed I’ve been to reach Japan, Malaysia and Mexico, to mention just some of the farther places I’ve seen. I’m of course trying to make the most of what I can – some jobs did take me in cool places, I admit – and I hope I will be lucky enough to be able to see many more and afford little getaways in style
